A Few of my Favourite Things

Published in Jan-Feb 2012

The Creative Head, Wahedna D’Arcy, Karachi, picks eight best advertising campaigns.

Comfort

Category: TV

Human emotions, especially romantic relationships bring smiles to faces. The dialogue is spontaneous and the expressions flawless.

Agency: Ogilvy & Mather, Pakistan

Coca-Cola

Category: TV

Playing on the emotional aspect makes an ad interesting and relatable. Spot on with the positioning and link to Christmas. The TVC connects emotionally yet happily with consumers. Simple thoughts, catchy visuals and a feel-good soundtrack grab attention, making the ad worth watching.

Agency: McCann Erickson, Spain

Cadbury Dairy Milk

Category: TV

Superb concept, beautifully executed. Emotions are captured in the most natural way. The expressions really grabbed my attention. In today’s world of mostly ‘nach gaana’ one cannot help but admire it.

Agency: Ogilvy & Mather, Pakistan

McDonald’s McSwirl

Category: Outdoor

Mouth watering visual with the red branding and minimal copy makes one feel like trying the product.

Agency: Mahattan Leo Burnett, Pakistan

Vodafone

Category: TV/BTL

A Christmas campaign asking consumers to nominate people who they think deserve kindness. Both the TVC and the BTL/digital campaign were strong enough to create top of mind recall. Hats off to the agency and team.

Agency: McCann Erickson, Spain

Mobilink Jazz

Category: Print

The expression on the boy’s face makes this an enjoyable piece of communication. Neat, clear and visually appealing, the image makes the difference.

Agency: The D’Hamidi Partnership, Pakistan

Yamaha

Category: Print

Neat, clean and simple.

An interesting way to put the message across without making tall claims. Makes viewers think twice.

Agency: DDLV BBDO, Italy

UBL

Category: Print

‘Direct dil se’ is the line that hooked on to this campaign. Linked emotionally with the consumers, the positioning connects with the visual. Banks usually demand a lot of copy but the clean layout ensured intelligent handling.
