Pakistan bags gold and bronze at the Asian Media Awards

Pakistani newspapers win for the first time at the prestigious WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards.

Two media groups from Pakistan, the Jang and Dawn Media Group, won gold and bronze awards respectively at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards held at Fort Santiago in Manila yesterday. This is the first time that newspapers from Pakistan have won at the Asian Media Awards.

The awards were in the Best in Newspaper Marketing category, where Jang won the gold for its multimedia classified campaign and Dawn bagged bronze for its print-based National Spelling Bee campaign. The silver was awarded to The New Straits Times from Malaysia.

The WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards are an annual event and are considered “the most prestigious recognition of excellence for the news publishing industry in the region” and aim to promote the highest standards in newspaper and magazine publishing. Other winners this year include newspapers from Myanmar, Oman, South Korea and the UAE.

Everyday, there is positive or negative news in every country around the world. Positive work breeds positive attitude and vice versa - its always a joy to see uplifting news from Pakistan about everyday Pakistanis!

Kudos Pakistani media. I have been part of the media and definitely there is no dearth of talent here. But at the same time, it is high time to grow up. Why do we have sickening Indian blast music between News breaks? Please please stop it. Merci

Dawn is a great newspaper which is read by people of South Asian origin all over the world, me included. It is simple to access, pursue and has ideas from some of the best intellectuals and analysts of Pakistan.It does not harass you with pop-ups and provides content that is relevant to our region and time. I thank the editor and contributors for their input and look forward to its continued success. Great work DAWN.

Always believed Dawn and Jang were best newspapers of the subcontinent . All Indian newspapers are far inferior in literary and news content. Kudos to Pakistani Journos.
